Attendees will be welcomed into the Holiday-Craft-A-Round with a decorated entrance and live art and music, complete with a photo booth and face painting. Local organizations and artists will be offering workshops and holiday crafting ideas for adults and children to do throughout the event. Free materials will be provided to encourage people to use up-cycled products, such as books donated by the City’s Office of Sustainability from Acres of Books as well as materials from the Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse.
The purpose of this event is to encourage the public to shop local and to be creative with their holiday gift giving, and to inspire the community to see the beauty in materials that could normally be considered trash. The goal of the event is to bring the community together while celebrating one-of-a-kind gifts found right next door. Local businesses participating in this event hope to connect to the community and promote a message of sustainable, local living.

Be sure to come out on the 1st Sunday in December at 3rd and Elm Avenue in Long Beach from 12 noon – 5 p.m..
Join GreenLB as we create an urban forest-like garden in North Long Beach. We will be planting roughly 40 trees in a vacant, mulch filled lot. We are collaborating with the Arts Council of Long Beach, as part of the A LOT Initiative (www.alotlongbeach.org), to activate underutilized spaces around Long Beach.
Our first tree planting will take place THIS SATURDAY on August 31st from 9am to 12pm. The location is at the corner of Artesia & Atlantic, same location at the Greener Good Farmers Market (North). Planting a tree is rewarding for the body, mind, and soul. Come learn how to properly plant a tree and then come back throughout the year to see how big it gets
We will have a water bottle refill station provided, so be sure to bring your reusable h2o bottle. Also recommended is sunscreen, a hat, and your favorite pair of work gloves, we’ll take care of the major tools and trees.

Wow what an eventful, educational, & fun filled green long beach day this year!
By the end of this weekend, my legs felt like jello –but it was so great seeing different organizations painting their own green mark in their neighborhoods. Hopefully we can continue this momentum and keep working together & individually to turn the town green.

On Saturday, August 17th join us to celebrate the “greening” of Long Beach by participating in one of the many events around Long Beach on Green Long Beach Day.
This year we are flipping the idea from our yearly festival and are putting the action back in the streets by creating an entire day of events all around the community that aims to inspire and activate actions of sustainability all across the city. Together we can “Paint the town Green!”
There will be bike rides, pub crawls, bird walks, and so much more… Especially because we are asking the community and folks like you to create your own events or actions. We think it would be great to celebrate in your own neighborhood and showcasing sustainability with your friends and neighbors.
All of the great activities across the city will be online via our
GreenLB Day Interactive Map!
If you are interested in creating your own activity, then fill out our registration form here:

Green Long Beach! will be joining the residents of the Willmore City neighborhood this Saturday, June 22nd from 11-3pm for the first Friend Fest Celebration at Drake Park.
“The idea developed from The Friendship Neighborhood, which is a new neighborhood group in Willmore City that sprouted after violence occurred a few months ago. We gathered with peers in the neighborhood who wanted to do positive things. We met and thought about what that might look like, short term and long term. We have been doing monthly neighborhood trash clean ups. Friend Fest is our first main event. It is a safe space where neighbors can become friends, and learn about different things happening in our community. Our vision is to foster a proud, safe, vibrant neighborhood of diverse, yet connected, friends and acquaintances, empowered through education, cultural and activist history, shared resources, and community building activities.”
- Local artist and activist Micaela Salatino
Mayor Bob Foster declared Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 as “Creative Reuse Day”.
Green Long Beach! along with dozens of community organizations, non-profits, and local environmental groups came together in support of The Depot’s 5th Year Anniversary celebration.
We had a great time showing the community how to make planters out of things that would normally be tossed in the recycling (or heaven forbid trash can), and we asked everyone to share with us what are some things that they’ve creatively reused.
This is how much fun we had:
